Gandaki Rainbow Trout Farm is one of the pioneer trout farms in Nepal, located in Sardi Khola, north of Pokhara. It was established about 12 years ago and has been supplying trout to restaurants and hotels in Pokhara. The farm has been successful in promoting agro-tourism in Nepal through trout fish farming.
The farm is situated at an altitude of about 1000 meters from sea level, at the bank of Bhurjung Khola. It is about 15 km from Bagar, Pokhara. The farm has been awarded by the World Food Organization and Nepal Agro Research Center for its production of trout fish. It has also received financing from international financial institutions.
Gandaki Rainbow Trout Farm distributes trout siblings to other farmers and provides training to all farmers related to fish farming, free of cost, including lodging and food for the trainees. The farm produces about 25 tons of trout annually.
The farm has been an inspiration to many others, and there are now several other trout farms in the area. Pokhara has become a hub for trout farming, and the Gandaki Rainbow Trout Farm is one of the leading examples of this success.
